Natural Skin Care Products For peace of mind
- Keep essential oils away from the eyes. Should any get into your eyes rinse with plenty of cool water. Another way is to rinse with milk.
- Do not put essential oils directly onto your skin, always dilute with a carrier oil.
- Keep all essential oils out of reach of children.
- Never take essential oils internally.
- Some essential oils can cancel out homeopathic remedies. You should always tell your homeopath if you are using essential oils.
- Avoid steam inhalations if you have asthma as concentrated steam could trigger an attack.
- Pregnancy - see ‘Essential Oils to Avoid During Pregnancy’.
- Epilepsy - see ‘Essential Oils to Avoid if….’
- If you have sensitive skin it would be adviseable to carry out a skin (or patch) test before using essential oils. You can do this by mixing one drop of essential oil to one teaspoon of Shea Butter oil or any other carrier oil you would prefer and rub the oil either in the crook of your elbow, behind your ears or on the inside of your wrist. Leave it for 24 hours and if, after that time, there is no itching or redness, then the oil is safe for you to use.
- Citrus oils, when used before exposure to sunlight or sunbeds, can cause pigmentation of the skin. This is called photosensitivy and its highly adviseable not to use any citrus oils before exposure to sunlight. You can purchase bergapten-free Bergamot, which may be tolerable, but I would still be careful.
